El Charco del Ingenio is a botanical garden and nature reserve above San Miguel de Allende, known for its large cactus collection, dry-land landscapes, and birdlife. Go early for cooler walking conditions and better wildlife viewing.
Guided tours are available, but it also works well as an independent half-day escape from the historic center.
