Campeche has a small international airport (CPE) with direct flights to Mexico City, and ADO first-class buses connect it to Mérida (2.5 hours), Villahermosa (4 hours), and Mexico City (20 hours overnight). The bus terminal is about 3 kilometres from the historic centre.
From Mérida, the scenic coastal road (Highway 180) goes through small fishing towns along the Gulf coast. The faster inland highway 180-D takes about two hours. From Villahermosa and Palenque, Campeche is reached via Highway 186 across the lowland plains of Tabasco — flat, not scenic, but efficient.
