A large Classical Revival building south of the city centre, opened in 1906 as a municipal shelter for the poor and disabled. The proportions are stately and the long pedimented façade — set back from the road behind a low stone wall — has the look of a small provincial railway station.
The building still operates as a residence for the elderly, so the interior is not open to the public, but it is one of the most striking pre-earthquake buildings in Mayagüez and worth the short walk south of the centre to look at.
