Eating Out

Mayagüez is one of the best food cities in Puerto Rico. The coastal location gives it a steady supply of fish — chillo, dorado, lobster from local boats — and the surrounding farms keep markets stocked with plantains, breadfruit and tropical fruit. The local signature is brazo gitano, a rolled sponge cake said to have been invented here in the late nineteenth century; every bakery in town has its own version.
