Mayagüez is the best base for the western and southwestern coast of Puerto Rico. The surf town of Rincón is fifteen minutes north. The salt flats and lighthouse of Cabo Rojo are forty minutes south. La Parguera, with its bioluminescent bay, is an hour southeast. Aguadilla, with the spectacular Crash Boat beach, is half an hour north.
