A long-running bar a block off Plaza Colón, La Calle is the default after-work and after-class spot in central Mayagüez. The crowd is mixed — engineering students from the Colegio, downtown office workers, the occasional band of musicians from the Teatro Yagüez. The drinks are cheap, the music is loud, and the kitchen does respectable bar food until late.
On weekends the place spills onto the street and there is usually live music — a trova duo, a salsa band, sometimes a DJ. The best night in town for a sense of what young Mayagüez is up to.
