Casa Alcaldía

The Mayagüez city hall faces Plaza Colón on its west side. Built in 1845, damaged by the 1918 earthquake, and reconstructed in a neoclassical key, it is the longest continuously functioning city hall in Puerto Rico. The façade is symmetrical, all white stucco and shutters, with a clock tower at the centre.

You can walk into the lobby during business hours to see the old council chamber and a small display on the city's history. Otherwise the interest is mostly external — the building completes the architectural ensemble around the plaza.
