Alabama Shakespeare Festival

One of the largest professional Shakespeare companies in the world, performing roughly a dozen productions a year across a Shakespeare stage and a modern repertoire stage. The complex sits in Blount Cultural Park alongside the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts on the east side of town.

You don't need to plan a trip around it, but if you're staying overnight and your tastes lean theatrical, check the schedule — productions are reliably high-quality and tickets are markedly cheaper than equivalent regional theatre in the Northeast.

A story
The festival is one of the few professional Shakespeare companies in the world to perform year-round. It was lured from its original home in Anniston to Montgomery in 1985 by a $21.5 million gift from the local Carolyn Blount, allowing it to build a permanent two-theatre campus in a 250-acre English-style park.
