Getting There

Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) has limited service — mostly American Eagle flights to Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth — so most travellers fly into Atlanta and drive 2.5 hours west, or into Birmingham and drive 90 minutes south. Both are straightforward interstate runs (I-85 from Atlanta, I-65 from Birmingham).

Long-distance Greyhound service stops downtown. There is no passenger rail to Montgomery; Amtrak service ended in the 1990s. Within Alabama, the city is a natural overnight stop on the civil rights trail between Birmingham and Selma to the west and Mobile to the south.
