Arctic Valley gives Anchorage one of its easiest mountain escapes. The ski area sits in the Chugach Mountains northeast of town, high enough that even the drive up feels like a quick exit from the city into Alaska's rougher edge.
In winter it is a small, community-minded ski hill rather than a resort machine. Outside ski season, the same area attracts hikers and view-seekers for the open tundra slopes and long views back toward Anchorage, Cook Inlet, and the surrounding peaks.
