A 1,500-acre park at the far west end of the city — boreal forest and meadow rolling down to the bluffs of Cook Inlet. In summer the trails are popular with mountain bikers, dog-walkers, and runners. In winter it becomes the city's main cross-country skiing venue, with lit trails for after-dark skiing through the long winter evenings.
The Coastal Trail terminates here, and the beach at Point Campbell offers some of the best beluga-watching in the city — the white whales come up the inlet in spring and autumn chasing salmon. Moose and the occasional bear are common in the wooded sections.
