Elks Theater and Performing Arts Center

The Elks Theater is a classically designed opera house from 1905, seating around 550, and still used for performances today. The building is one of the handsomest in downtown Prescott — a three-storey brick structure with ornate classical detailing on the facade and a well-preserved interior that includes the original balcony and decorative plasterwork.

It was built by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks as a combined meeting hall and public performance venue. For much of the 20th century it hosted touring productions from across the country. Today it is run as a community arts center and presents a mix of local productions, touring shows, and community events.

Even if you're not attending a performance, it's worth walking past to see the exterior. Check the current listings if you're in town for a few days — the programming is genuinely varied and often includes interesting regional acts.
