Lure Fish House on Thompson Boulevard is the most consistent seafood restaurant in Ventura — the kind of place that sources local catch, keeps the preparations straightforward, and has been doing it long enough that they have figured out what works. The menu changes with what is available: local halibut, Santa Barbara spot prawns when in season, and Dungeness crab in winter are among the better choices. The wood-fired preparations here are generally the right call.
The room is pleasant without being pretentious — exposed brick, good lighting, a lively bar. It fills up on weekend evenings so booking ahead is sensible. The lunch menu is more relaxed and often better value than dinner. For a coastal California city of Ventura's size, Lure is doing what a seafood restaurant in this location should be doing.
