Ventura rewards slower exploration than most California coastal cities. Downtown Main Street has the historic Mission, a string of good restaurants and breweries, and a handful of small museums. The harbor is the departure point for Channel Islands ferries. The beaches stretch north and south of the pier, and the hills above town have trails that are mostly empty on weekdays.
