Ventura's food scene has improved considerably in the last decade. Main Street and the blocks around it now have a solid run of restaurants — fresh seafood, good taco spots, and an expanding brewery presence. The city is close enough to the Santa Barbara wine country and the Oxnard plain agricultural belt that local produce and wines appear on menus regularly. It is not a dining destination on the level of Santa Barbara, but you will eat well without trying very hard.
