Chula Vista Bayfront

The Chula Vista Bayfront stretches along San Diego Bay south of downtown San Diego, occupying what was for decades a mix of abandoned industrial lots and undeveloped coastal land. The redevelopment project has created new waterfront parks, kayak launch areas, fishing spots, and walking trails with unobstructed views across the bay toward the Coronado Bridge and Point Loma.

The bayfront is divided into three zones: the Sweetwater District at the north end, centred on the wildlife refuge; the Harbor District in the middle with marina access and restaurants; and the Otay District at the southern end with more open parkland. The salt marshes and bay views are at their best in the early morning. A free tram connects the E Street parking lot to the Living Coast Discovery Center and the bayfront trail network.

A story
The Chula Vista Bayfront development is one of the largest coastal redevelopment projects on the California coast — a 535-acre transformation of former industrial land on San Diego Bay that was set in motion in 2018. At its heart is a new convention centre and hotel, but the public parkland, nature trails, and bay access form the real reason most people will come.
