Julian is small enough to walk end to end in half an hour, and that is the right way to see it. Main Street has most of what you came for — the Eagle Mine, the historic hotel, the bakeries — and the surrounding hills offer hiking trails through oak and pine forest. Apple pie is non-negotiable.
