Skyline Wilderness Park

850-acre regional park on the east edge of Napa, with hiking trails

Skyline Wilderness Park is an 850-acre regional park on the eastern edge of Napa, opened in the 1980s on land that had previously been part of the Napa State Hospital. The park offers more than 25 miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails through oak woodland and chaparral, with steeper climbs up to ridge-line viewpoints over the valley.

Lake Marie at the centre of the park is a small pond with picnic facilities. The Bay Leaf Trail and the Skyline Trail loops are the most popular routes for hikers. The park is a useful break from wine-tasting and one of the best places near the city to feel like you've left the valley floor behind.
