Grace Episcopal Church

A small Gothic Revival church on Howell Mountain Road at the south end of downtown, built in 1869 of local stone and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the oldest continuously operating Episcopal churches in northern California and retains its original hammer-beam roof structure, wooden pews, and a modest but well-preserved stained-glass east window.

The building is compact and austere by Eastern seaboard standards — a frontier church, with none of the ornamentation that came later — and the contrast with the opulence of the surrounding wine country is quietly striking. The grounds include a small historic cemetery. Services are still held; the church is generally open during daylight hours on weekdays.
