Pope Street Bridge

A handsome 1894 stone arch bridge carrying Pope Street over the Napa River on the east side of town. Built by Italian stonemasons from blocks of local basalt, it is one of the oldest masonry bridges still in vehicle service in California and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The four full-centred arches and the railings have been carefully restored.

A two-minute walk along the river from the bridge gives a good view of the structure and of the cottonwoods and willows along the bank. Combine with a visit to the small park on the east side. The bridge sees light local traffic and is comfortable to walk across.
