Larimer Square

A single block of Larimer Street between 14th and 15th, Larimer Square is the oldest surviving stretch of commercial Denver — built in the 1870s and 1880s after the first wave of mining money, and saved from the wrecking ball in the 1960s by activist Dana Crawford. It was the city's first historic district and the model for every "saved" warehouse district that followed.

The cast-iron facades now house restaurants, bars, and a handful of independent shops; the strung lights overhead make the block feel festive even in winter. It's worth a slow walk and a drink at the Capital Grille or Rioja. The Square is at the south edge of LoDo proper — Coors Field is a ten-minute walk north, Union Station four blocks west.
