Colt Park

Address 106 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford, CT

Colt Park is a 106-acre public park in the South End of Hartford, created from the former Armsmear estate of Samuel and Elizabeth Colt. The estate was bequeathed to the city in 1905 by Elizabeth Colt after her husband's death. The park contains mature trees, open meadows, sports fields, a pool, and the gothic church that Elizabeth Colt built as a memorial to her husband and sons — the Church of the Good Shepherd, visible from the park grounds.

The park itself is a pleasant green space worth visiting if you are already in the South End exploring the Colt Armory complex. The combination of the armory, Coltsville, Colt Park, and the Church of the Good Shepherd gives a remarkably complete picture of Samuel Colt's ambition to build not just a factory but an entire world around it.
