Kalmar Nyckel

Kalmar Nyckel is a full-scale replica of the 17th-century ship that carried Swedish settlers to the Delaware Valley. The original helped found New Sweden, and the modern version keeps that story visible on Wilmington's riverfront.

When she is in port, the ship is worth a look for its high stern, rigging, and period detail. In season, she also sails public cruises on the Delaware River, which are the best way to understand how small these Atlantic crossings could feel.
