Fort Lauderdale's dining scene runs from casual seafood shacks to upscale waterfront restaurants, with a strong Caribbean and Latin American streak reflecting south Florida's population. Las Olas Boulevard has the biggest concentration — everything from Cuban cafés to Italian trattorias and raw bars — and the beachfront strip has the usual line-up of seafood-and-margaritas places with ocean views. For the local specialty, look for stone crab claws (in season October to May), fresh-caught mahi-mahi and grouper, and the Cuban staple ropa vieja. The area around 17th Street and the Las Olas Marina has some of the best harbourside restaurants, where half the clientele arrives by boat.
