Wynwood Walls

Curated outdoor street-art museum that turned a warehouse district into Miami's mural capital

The Wynwood Walls are the reason the neighbourhood exists in its current form. Developer Tony Goldman launched the project in 2009, inviting internationally known street artists to turn the blank walls of former warehouses into a curated open-air museum. The result is a courtyard of large-scale murals by names like Shepard Fairey, Os Gêmeos, and Kenny Scharf, refreshed regularly so the line-up changes from year to year.

The core enclosure is now ticketed, but the murals have long since spilled out across the surrounding blocks, where you can wander freely and find work on nearly every surface — loading docks, parking lots, the sides of cafes. Come for the Walls, then give yourself an hour to drift through the streets around them. The second Saturday of each month brings the free Wynwood Art Walk, when galleries open late and the crowds are at their liveliest.
