Jacksonville Beach Boardwalk Strip

The strip of bars and restaurants along 1st Street and the Ocean Walk boardwalk in Jacksonville Beach is the most concentrated nightlife scene in the beaches area. It is unpretentious and occasionally raucous — beach bars with tiki torches, open-air patios, live cover bands, and beer towers are the dominant mode.

The Flying Iguana is a reliable taco bar with a long tequila list. Surfer the Bar draws a surfing crowd with craft beer and shots. Pete's Bar in Neptune Beach, opened in 1933, is the oldest bar in Florida and serves cheap drinks to a mixed crowd in a room that has barely changed in decades. The strip is best visited in the evening — lunch options are dominated by the same bars, many of which do serviceable fried seafood platters.
