The Jacksonville Beach Pier extends 800 feet into the Atlantic from the foot of Beach Boulevard, offering fishing access and a perspective on the beach and surf from above. The pier has been rebuilt several times after hurricane damage and is a working fishing pier — anglers cast for sheepshead, flounder, and redfish from its rails in all weathers.
The view from the end of the pier back toward the beach and the low-rise hotels behind it is one of the most characteristic pictures of Jacksonville Beach. In the mornings, before the crowds arrive, surfers work the break on either side of the pier (the pilings create small waves that diverge from the main break). Evening is good for watching the sunset behind the city.
