EverBank Stadium (Jacksonville Jaguars)

EverBank Stadium is home to the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL franchise and sits on the north bank of the St. Johns River near downtown. Game days transform the area around the stadium and the Northbank Riverwalk into one of the more vivid scenes in Jacksonville — the city is genuinely passionate about its team in a way that is more common in smaller NFL markets than in the coastal megacities.

Stadium tours are available on non-game days and are worth doing if you are interested in American football culture — the facility was substantially renovated in 2022 and features the largest in-stadium pool deck in the NFL, a peculiarity that says something specific about Jacksonville's relationship to heat and leisure. Tickets for regular-season games are generally available and not outrageously priced compared to other NFL markets.

A story
The Jaguars were founded in 1995 as part of the NFL's expansion into new markets. Jacksonville, a city of around 700,000 at the time, was considered too small to sustain an NFL franchise by most analysts. The team made the AFC Championship Game in only its second season of existence, losing to the New England Patriots in 1996. They reached it again the following year. It was the most successful start by an expansion franchise in NFL history, and it has not really been matched since.
