Animal Kingdom covers more than 500 acres — by far the largest of the four Disney World parks — and feels genuinely different from the rest of the resort. The African savannah section, Kilimanjaro Safaris, puts you in an open-sided vehicle moving through free-roaming lions, elephants, giraffes, and hippos. Avatar Flight of Passage, in the Pandora land, is the most technically impressive ride at Disney World; book a Lightning Lane reservation or queue early.
The park is built around the Tree of Life, a 145-foot artificial baobab carved with 325 animal figures, and takes conservation seriously — the animals are central to the experience, not backdrop. Closing time comes earlier than the other parks for the animals' benefit, typically at dark. Evenings, when the Pandora bioluminescence effects activate, are worth staying for.
story: "The Tree of Life's root system contains an actual working oil rig structure, repurposed from a closed offshore platform."
