Wet 'n Wild was one of Orlando's original water parks, opened in 1977 on International Drive by George Millay, who also created SeaWorld. For nearly four decades it drew families and thrill-seekers with its wave pools, multi-passenger raft rides, and a relaxed atmosphere that felt more local than the big-name theme parks nearby.
Universal acquired the park in 1998 and eventually closed it permanently on 31 December 2016 to make way for Universal's Volcano Bay, which opened on the same stretch of I-Drive the following year. The Wet 'n Wild site has since been redeveloped.
If you are looking for a water park in Orlando today, Volcano Bay, Aquatica (near SeaWorld), and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are the main options.
