Lake Trail

The Lake Trail is a paved path running along the Lake Worth Lagoon side of Palm Beach for about 5 miles (8 km), from Phipps Ocean Park in the south to Inlet Drive in the north. It is one of the few genuinely egalitarian things about Palm Beach: free, open to everyone, and offering views of the town's residential architecture from the lagoon side.

The trail passes the rear facades of many of Palm Beach's most notable mansions and estates, giving a perspective on the town's scale and wealth that is impossible from the street. Early morning is the best time — joggers, cyclists, and dog-walkers from the town itself use it before the day heats up, and the light on the lagoon is excellent. The views west across the lagoon toward West Palm Beach show the contrast between the two towns at its most obvious: the low-rise, manicured estates on the Palm Beach shore against the downtown tower blocks on the opposite bank.
