Alpharetta

North Fulton suburb of Atlanta with a walkable centre and a substantial technology-office base.

Alpharetta is an affluent suburb of Atlanta in north Fulton County, about 26 miles north of downtown. It's a significant tech hub — dozens of major technology companies have offices here — and has developed a pleasant, walkable town center around Alpharetta City Center in recent years.

For visitors, Alpharetta is primarily a base for exploring north Atlanta or a stop on the way to the north Georgia mountains. The town center has good restaurants and a farmers market on Saturdays, and the larger Avalon development is the high-end shopping and dining destination on the south side of town. The Ameris Bank Amphitheatre is a major outdoor concert venue that draws big-name acts throughout the summer.

Things to Do

Alpharetta is a suburb rather than a sightseeing destination, and visitors typically come here for business, summer concerts at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, or as a base for exploring north Atlanta. The local highlights are walkable mixed-use districts — Alpharetta City Center and Avalon — and the Big Creek Greenway for outdoor exercise.

Combine a walk on the Greenway with a Saturday morning at the farmers market in City Center, and add a concert or an Avalon dinner in the evening for a typical Alpharetta day. Day trips to the north Georgia mountains start about an hour north.
