Marietta

Cobb County city northwest of Atlanta, centred on a preserved historic square and Glover Park.

Marietta is the seat of Cobb County, about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta. The Marietta Square — antebellum buildings, boutique shops, restaurants, and Glover Park — is one of the best-preserved historic town centres in Georgia and a destination in its own right. The Marietta Museum of History and the Confederate Cemetery are a short walk from the square.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, just north of Marietta, preserves the site of a pivotal June 1864 battle from the Atlanta Campaign. More than 17 miles of trails wind through original earthworks and artillery positions; the summit of Big Kennesaw offers the best panoramic view of the Atlanta skyline in the metro area.

The Gone with the Wind Museum at Brumby Hall holds an impressive collection of memorabilia from the 1939 film, including original costumes and signed first editions. The novel's setting — the plantation country of northwest Georgia — is the landscape you're standing in.
