The Dahlem Center is a 300-acre nature preserve south-west of the city, with a network of marked trails through woodland, meadow, and restored oak savanna. The visitor centre runs naturalist-led walks and has a small exhibit hall on the local ecology and the long-running work to restore the savanna habitat — once common across southern Michigan, now almost entirely gone.
A wheelchair-accessible boardwalk loops through the wetland near the entrance and is good for spring wildflowers and migrating warblers.
