Two-mile NASCAR superspeedway in the Irish Hills south of Jackson

The Michigan International Speedway sits in the rolling Irish Hills country about 25 miles south of Jackson, at the village of Brooklyn. The track is a two-mile D-shaped oval with 18-degree banked turns and a wide racing surface that produces consistently high speeds.

NASCAR's Cup Series runs here twice a year, usually in June and August, drawing crowds of well over 100,000. Off the race weekends, the speedway offers ride-along laps in modified race cars, sells day passes for the infield road course, and runs the MIS Driving Experience for visitors who want time at the wheel of a stock car.

A story
MIS is one of the fastest tracks on the NASCAR calendar — cars regularly run qualifying laps above 200 mph. The track was designed by Charles Moneypenny, the same engineer who laid out Daytona, and the two have similar high-banked geometry.
