Eat Street (Nicollet Avenue)

"Eat Street" is the informal name for the stretch of Nicollet Avenue south of downtown, roughly between 24th and 30th Streets, where an extraordinary concentration of immigrant-owned restaurants has made this the most diverse dining mile in Minnesota. Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Somali, Mexican, Ethiopian, and Middle Eastern restaurants line both sides of the street, most of them family-run and priced well below the trendy dining districts north of downtown.

The Vietnamese restaurants here are consistently excellent — reflecting the large Vietnamese community in south Minneapolis. Pho is the staple, but look also for bún bò Huế (spicy beef noodle soup), bánh mì sandwiches, and the various rice and noodle dishes that rarely appear in more tourist-oriented establishments. Dinner before 7pm tends to be quieter than the post-concert rush later in the evening.
