The Museum of the Rockies has one of the largest and most scientifically significant dinosaur collections in the world. The fossil gallery contains a T. rex skull that is one of the largest ever found, multiple Triceratops specimens, and extensive collections from the Hell Creek Formation, which has produced more late Cretaceous dinosaur material than any other site on earth.
Beyond the dinosaurs, the museum covers the human and natural history of the Rocky Mountain region from prehistory through the settlement era. The planetarium and rotating special exhibitions add to the year-round programme. The building is on the Montana State University campus but operates independently.
Open year-round except major holidays. Allow at least two hours; families with children interested in dinosaurs will easily spend half a day. The museum shop has an unusually good selection of paleontology titles.
