North America > United States > Montana > Glendive
Glendive is an eastern Montana town with one very good reason to stop: the badlands of Makoshika State Park rise almost from the edge of town. The eroded hills are part of the Hell Creek Formation, a fossil-rich landscape tied to Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus rex, and other late Cretaceous finds.
That dinosaur identity gives Glendive more pull than its size suggests. The state park visitor centre, the Frontier Gateway Museum, and the private Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum make it one of the clearer fossil stops on the long drive across eastern Montana.
The town is still a small highway and railroad place, so expectations matter. Come for badlands light, short trails, and fossil context, not for urban charm.
