Omaha is a car-oriented city and most visitors will need a vehicle to get around comfortably. The Old Market and downtown are walkable, and the riverfront trail is pleasant, but the major attractions (Henry Doorly Zoo, Boys Town, Joslyn Art Museum, Lauritzen Gardens) are spread across the city and not easily linked on foot.
The Metro bus network covers the city but frequency is low. Ride-sharing is available throughout Omaha and is the practical alternative to renting a car if you're staying downtown and mainly visiting Old Market-area attractions. Parking downtown is inexpensive by most standards — street meters and surface lots are easy to find except during large events.
