Pie Town

Remote New Mexico settlement on US 60, known for pie and the Continental Divide Trail.

It is not the end of the world, but you can see it from here. Remote Pie Town, on US 60 in west-central New Mexico, can claim one of the most entertaining place names anywhere. And yes, they do serve pie here — come for the annual Pie Town Pie Festival in September, when the town's population temporarily multiplies and the pies flow freely.

There is not much else to Pie Town beyond a handful of buildings, a post office, and big skies in every direction. That emptiness is the attraction. The Continental Divide Trail passes through, and the surrounding high desert and ponderosa pine country is vast and quiet. It is the kind of place you stop for pie and remember for years.

Things to Do

Pie Town is not a town in any conventional sense — there is no grid of streets, no traffic lights, no supermarket. What there is: the Continental Divide Trail passing through, a famous pie café, big empty sky, and the kind of silence that takes some getting used to.
