Getting There

The most practical airport for Santa Fe is Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ), about an hour to the south on Interstate 25. Major airlines fly in from across the US; rental cars are easy to pick up at the airport, and the Sandia Shuttle runs hourly buses from ABQ to the Santa Fe Plaza for around 35 dollars.

Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF) has limited service from Dallas, Denver, and Phoenix on American and United regional jets — handy if you can connect through those hubs.

The New Mexico Rail Runner Express is a commuter train running between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, with a stop at the Railyard depot. It is cheap, scenic, and runs eight or nine times a day; the trip is about 90 minutes.

Driving is the natural choice for any trip combining Santa Fe with Taos, the pueblos, or the wider Southwest. The High Road to Taos through Chimayó is one of the country's best two-hour drives.
