The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse stands on Middle Ground Flats in the Hudson River, roughly midway between Hudson and the village of Athens on the opposite bank. Built in 1874, the two-storey mansard-roofed structure replaced an earlier lighthouse on the same shoal that was a navigation hazard for river traffic heading to and from the Port of Hudson. The lighthouse was in continuous service until 1949.
Boat tours to the lighthouse run in summer from Hudson's waterfront, operated by the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society. It is also visible from the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park at the foot of the bluff below Warren Street. Tours include access to the interior and upper gallery with broad views up and down the river.
