Hudson Historic District

The Hudson Historic District takes in nearly all of downtown and has been described as "one of the richest dictionaries of architectural history in New York State." The grid of streets between Warren and the river contains Federal houses from the city's founding decade (1785–1795), Greek Revival storefronts, Italianate mansions on upper Warren Street, and Victorian commercial buildings — all packed into a few walkable blocks. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Pick up a walking map at the Hudson Visitors Center and look above the shopfronts: the upper floors often show more of the original architecture than the renovated ground floors.
