Things to Do

Syracuse's most visited indoor attraction is the Erie Canal Museum, housed in the 1850 Weighlock Building — the only surviving example of a canal boat weigh station in the country. The Everson Museum of Art is a significant regional art museum with strong collections of American ceramics and studio pottery. The Landmark Theatre is a magnificently restored 1928 movie palace that still hosts concerts, comedy, and touring shows.

Outside the city, Green Lakes State Park has two meromictic glacial lakes with striking turquoise water. For the peculiar, the Upside-Down Traffic Light in Tipperary Hill is a local institution with a story. The 24-Second Shot Clock Monument celebrates one of basketball's most important rule changes, invented here in 1954.

Sports fans will want to know about the JMA Wireless Dome on the Syracuse University campus — home to Orange football and basketball with a capacity of over 49,000.
