Hickory Ridge Homestead

Reconstructed 18th-century Appalachian homestead and history museum

Hickory Ridge is a small open-air museum of life in the 1700s Appalachian backcountry. Eight log structures (originals and reconstructions) sit on a wooded site adjacent to the Daniel Boone Amphitheater: a cabin, a weaving shed, a smokehouse, a blacksmith's forge. Costumed interpreters demonstrate spinning, hearth-cooking, and gardening on summer weekends.

It is a modest visit but a useful one — the structures convey the cramped, smoky, hardworking texture of frontier life in the way no plaque can. Open weekends and during the Horn in the West summer season; check ahead for hours.
