The Ackland is UNC's art museum, located in a handsome building on Franklin Street at the edge of campus. Admission is free. The permanent collection spans five millennia and includes strong holdings in European paintings, Asian art, and works on paper. It is a genuinely good museum — not a campus curiosity but a serious collection worth an hour of your time. Temporary exhibitions rotate regularly and often explore underrepresented areas of art history.
