Old Well

The Old Well is the most recognizable symbol of UNC Chapel Hill — a small neoclassical rotunda modeled on the Temple of Love at Versailles. It stands in the middle of McCorkle Place, the oldest part of campus, surrounded by trees that have been growing for over a century. The well itself was the primary water source for the early university, and tradition holds that a sip of water from it on the first day of classes will bring good luck for the year ahead.
