Caldwell is a small county-seat village in southeast Ohio, just off I-77 in Noble County. It is not a polished destination, and you should not expect a full slate of city attractions. Its appeal is narrower: Appalachian back roads, old oil history, local glass collecting, and easy access to quiet state-park land.
The strongest stop is just east of town at Thorla-McKee Park, where a small site marks what is often described as North America's first oil well. In town, the Baker Family Museum is an eccentric private collection heavy on regional glass. North of the village, Wolf Run State Park gives Caldwell a real outdoor anchor.
Caldwell is best for travelers already crossing southeast Ohio or following the region's industrial and rural history. It is worth a deliberate half-day if the oil-well story or Wolf Run appeals to you; otherwise it is a useful, low-key base between Zanesville and Marietta.
