Campbellsville is a small central Kentucky town whose travel case rests on water, Civil War memory, and a handful of old houses. It is not a broad city break, but it does make sense if you are already moving between Bardstown, Hodgenville, Mammoth Cave country, or Lake Cumberland and want a day that is more than a lunch stop.
Green River Lake State Park is the main draw: boating, fishing, trails, and wooded coves around a large reservoir. South of town, Tebbs Bend Battlefield and the Atkinson-Griffin Log House tell the local chapter of John Hunt Morgan's 1863 raid.
The town itself is modest. Hiestand House adds a rare German stone-house stop, and Campbellsville University keeps some life in the centre, but the reason to come is the loop of lake, battlefield, and small historic sites rather than downtown wandering.
