Just over the city line into south Oklahoma City but right on Moore's northern edge, the Museum of Osteology is the only museum in the United States devoted entirely to skeletons. The collection runs to more than 350 mounted specimens — everything from hummingbirds to humpback whales, alongside a Komodo dragon, a giraffe, a snow leopard, and a 40-foot humpback whale skeleton in the main hall.
The displays are arranged thematically: vertebrate adaptations, comparative anatomy, locomotion. A glass-walled room lets visitors watch dermestid beetles cleaning fresh specimens for the on-site Skulls Unlimited company, which exports skeletons worldwide. It is one of the more unusual museums in the country and easily worth an hour from Moore.
